Staple Foot

This cabinet foot has a simple structure and requires no loose hardware or tapped holes for attachment to equipment cabinets such as data processing terminals.

Fig. 1 shows a bottom view of the foot. It consists of a rubber disc element 10 carrying a staple element 12. Staple 12 has a generally disc-shaped back portion 14 and leg portions 16, 18. A central aperture 20 in 14 permits rubber to flow between the opposite sides of 14 when 12 is molded in place during the manufacture of 10, so as to impart strength to the central portion of 10. Stability of 12 in 10 is enhanced by lateral portions 22 of 14, providing strength to the anchorage of 12 in 10. The bottom of 10 is formed with a concave portion 24 surrounded by a flat annular portion 26.

Fig. 2 (Section A-A of Fig. 1) shows the method of installation on a bottom chassis wall 28 of an equipment cabinet. Wall 28 is formed with slots 30, 32 which receive leg portions 16, 18 respectively. Foot body 10 is formed with cavities 34, 38 to receive pins 40, 42 of a backup tool to provide force against 14 when 16, 18 are bent down and clinched behind 28, as indicated by the dotted arrows. Portion 46 of 10 is compressed between 14 and 28, and serves to keep the foot tight and firmly in place against rattling or shifting in service.
