Electronics Packaging

In a desk-high key-operated data terminal, three gates with electronic circuit cards have to be made accessible on both sides for maintenance purposes.

As the electronics compartment in the machine is small and accessible only from one side, a drawer-type construction has been chosen, as shown in the figure. To get access to the electronics a support glider 1 for gate assembly 2 is pulled outwards, while two pivotable window-like frame parts 3 and 4, which provide additional support for the gate-assembly, are stretched from a normally parallel folded position when gate assembly 2 is inside the machine. The window-type frame parts 3 and 4 are also used to guide and support the connecting cables from the electronics to the rest of the machine. For this purpose the windows are covered with perforated plates to which the cables may be attached by cable binders. When the gate assembly is in the extended position, the two outside Rates 5 and 6 may be pivoted around pivot points 7 and 8 by lifting the latches 9 and 10 and so become accessible on both sides while at the same time rendering both sides of the middle gate 11 accessible.
