Abstract

As shown in the figure, this connector assembly for a flexible tape cable 2 offers ease of flexing for the cable while providing a secure connection to the connector 3 of the assembly. Besides the connector 3, the connector assembly includes an elongated section 4 over which the tape cable is placed. A retention clamp 5 provides a removable strain relief clamp to lock the tape cable 2 in place over the elongated section 4.

Flexible Tape Clamp Connector Assembly

As shown in the figure, this connector assembly for a flexible tape cable 2 offers ease of flexing for the cable while providing a secure connection to the connector 3 of the assembly. Besides the connector 3, the connector assembly includes an elongated section 4 over which the tape cable is placed. A retention clamp 5 provides a removable strain relief clamp to lock the tape cable 2 in place over the elongated section 4.

The tape cable 2 is first attached to the connector assembly pin contacts 6. The tape cable 2 is then formed around the elongated section 4 of the connector assembly to allow flexing of the tape cable 2 while providing strain relief for the connections. The retention clamp 5 is positioned over the tape cable 2 formed around the section 4. The retention clamp 5 firmly holds the cable in place. Tabs 7 are included on the retention clamp 5 to slide over projections 8 and snap into place to prevent the clamp from becoming dislodged accidentally while allowing removal and replacement of the cable, if necessary.
