Dual Purpose Acoustic and RF Anechoic Room

A dual-purpose anechoic room which is effective both at acoustic and radio frequencies (RF) is constructed by combining acoustic-wave-absorbing material with RF wave-absorbing material.

Cremer's cube construction is used employing cubes or other component shapes with acoustic properties alternating with cubes having dual RF and acoustic properties. The acoustic-absorbing material can be the usual sound- absorbing foam.

The drawing shows wedges made out of decreasing sizes of cubes. The cubes can be suspended in the room by using nylon thread stretched from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, giving the advantage that the number of cubes in each wedge can be changed thus tuning the characteristics of the completed room.
