The accurate or reliable feeding of documents or envelopes from the bottom of a stack is quite difficult due to the varying forces presented to the feeding device as well as the tendency of the envelopes or sheets to stick together.

Shown is a device which provides reliable shingling of envelopes or documents from a bottom feed device such that they are presented one-by-one to a utilization device. The device includes a gravity feed hopper 1 which is mounted over one or more roller separator wheels. The wheel arrangement is preferably designed such that only one of the rollers at a time is in contact with the lower envelope or sheet to be fed. Thus, between the times that the various rollers pass across the lower envelope or sheet to be fed, pressure on the stack is released such that the envelopes or sheets are jogged to alleviate any tendency for them to stick together due to electrostatic charges or the indentation within the envelope stack caused by the roller. Thus, the indentation which may be formed by the roller on the Ferris wheel, which may protrude into several layers of envelopes or sheets, is allowed to relax and, thus, multiple feeding is alleviated.
