Controlled Threshold Receiver

The circuit depicted is an improved T/2/L off-chip receiver.

The input threshold of the controlled threshold receiver is independent of the VVB characteristic of output transistor T3, and, therefore, does not vary with fan- out loading at the output node.

Load independence is achieved by applying a reference voltage of - VBB+VBE(T2) to the base of input transistor T1. The reference voltage is generated by R1 and diode-connected transistor T2 whose VBE characteristics match those of T1. Thus, temperature stability is also provided for the circuit threshold.
