Corrosion Inhibition for Molybdenum

Molybdenum will corrode in the presence of air and moisture.

Such corrosion can be significantly inhibited, even in the presence of a moist air ambient, if ammonium molybdate or similar species is formed on the surface of the molybdenum. Treatment of molybdenum with ammonium hydroxide will result in the formation of a corrosion inhibiting surface.
