Rack Mounted Diskette Storage Device

A pair of magnetic diskette storage units 10 and 12 are slideably disposed in a rack 14 (Fig. 1). Storage units 10 and 12 are provided with identical covers 16 which are respectively mounted to the left and to the right of the respective units 10 and 12 so as to hide mounting screws 18 (Fig. 5) on the sides of rack 14.

Each of units 10 and 12 comprises a disk drive 20 fixed within a frame 22 (Fig. 2). Each of the drives 20 has a cover 20a that is swingable to allow the insertion of a diskette, such as that shown in U. S. Patent 3,668,658, and has a power on/off switching unit 24. A cover 16 fits over the front end of the disk drive unit and has an elongated opening 16a through which the diskette may be moved and has an opening 16b through which the switching unit 24 extends when cover 16 is in place.

Subpanels 26 and 28 (Fig. 3) are fixed to the rear surface of each of the covers 16 and are positioned behind the covers so that the left subpanel 26 protrudes into the opening 16a just far enough for its angled surface to guide the diskette into the respective disk drive 20, and the right subpanel 28 is positioned so that it partially covers the right side of the opening 16a. Each of the covers 16 is provided with a pair of lower tabs 30 and a centrally located tab 32 (Fig. 4). Tabs 30 are movable into slots 34 provided in the respective frame 22, and tab 32 is movable underneath an upper transversely extending strut 36 which is...
