Typewheel Brush

A free-running bristled disk provides an effective cleaning action when placed in contact with a continuously running typewheel because of different directions of scrubbing action.

As seen in Fig. 1, disk 1 is mounted to be freely rotatable about pivot 2 on yoke 3. The yoke is also pivotally mounted and urged through spring 4 to bring disk brush 1 into contact with rotating typewheel 5 (shown in outline form). The rotation of the typewheel in the direction shown also produces the rotation of disk 1 and the bristles against the type faces on the wheel. The yoke may be urged away from the typewheel and selectively brought into engagement with the typewheel by a cam or electromagnet when selective cleaning is desired.

Fig. 2 shows a modification of the mounting for disk brush 1 in which it is supported on the machine frame and is effective only when typewheel 5 returns to a home position, for example.
