Abstract

A stack of multiple floppy disks 3 rotating about a common axis is disposed between stationary plates 1. Spacers 12 are provided to fix disks 3 to common drive shaft 2 and to space the disks from each other. Vent holes 11 in stationary plates 1 and rent holes 5 in disk 3 render the pack of disks 3 self-ventilating. The pack of disks 3 is divided by center disk 13, having either no holes or holes of a very small diameter. The disk pack is ventilated by air streams 8, 9, which are subdivided into as many streams 8a - 8c and 9a - 9d as there are disk spaces 6.

The data tracks of the disk file are accessed via access arm 10, radially moving magnetic head carrier 4 into a read/write position between two selected disks forming an increased space for magnetic head carrier 4. Center disk 13 stabilizes disks 3 of the pack if the latter is unsymmetrically split by magnetic head carrier 4.
