Abstract

An electronic typewriter 11 includes a replaceable typehead 13 having a series of coded bumps 15 thereon. Sensor 17 senses the code of the bumps indicating to the electronic typewriter 11 which one of a plurality of type fonts is located on the machine. A separate impression table is stored for each type font and the impression table corresponding to the type font employed on the machine is utilized by the system to control the amount of print impact force. Further, the font utilized is displayed to the operator at display window 19. The operator can thus note on the document which type font is utilized in case it is necessary to recreate the document or parts thereof.
