A process is described for producing conductor paths on a substrate and for producing passivation of the conductor paths.

In cases where the substrate is a material such as alumina, the conductor paths are produced by the use of a suitable glass and metal powders, such as platinum or rhodium powders. The glass must have a suitable thermal match with the alumina, good durability in the environment for use, and temperature- viscosity properties which permit the generation of metallized conductor paths during glazing operations. The conductor paths are passivated by covering the conductor paths with a layer of the same glass used for the previous glazing operation. It has been determined that the passivation can be accomplished without dispersion of the previously deposited conductor paths.
