Cartridge Shipping Tab

This article describes an insertion device for tightening loosely wrapped media during shipping and storing.

Figs. 1A and 1B depict elevational and cross-sectional views of cartridge 10, with shipping tab 12 inserted between the outside diameter 14 of the media and the inside surface of cartridge 10.

Figs. 1C and 1D show the shipping tab 12. The shipping tab is a flexible strip having a curved lead-in end 15. The tab is fabricated from plastic or composite material. Whenever the tab is inserted in a cartridge assembly, as shown in Fig. 1A, pressure is exerted on the wound tape, thus preventing loose wraps.
