Cable Bending Apparatus

The apparatus shown is capable of bending flat wire bus cables at very precise angles. Accommodation is made for variable thickness of the cable. Bends can also be made along angular orientations.

This apparatus includes an anvil 10 which is part of a cover mechanism 12. The cover 12 can pivot at a hinge 15. In order to bend a flat wire bus 17, the cover 12 is lifted exposing bed 16. The flat wire bus 17 is then laid on top of bed 16 at the desired angular position and the cover 12 is closed, as shown in Fig. 1. A break 20 is pivoted on a hinge 21. Break 20 can be lifted by handle 22, as shown in Fig. 2. When the break 20 is moved from the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 2 to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the flat wire bus 17 is bent. Fig. 3 shows a front view of the break 20.

A mechanism 30 holds the bus 17 up against anvil 10. Mechanism 30 includes a movable piston 31 which can be moved up and down by a rotatable cam 32. The mechanism for rotating cam 32 is not specifically shown. A spring 35 pushes a plunger 36 up against the flat wire bus so that the mechanism can accommodate various thicknesses of flat wires.
