Abstract

The drawing shows a conductive seal for electromagnetic shielding. The seal is useful between moveable panel sections in metal covers for components of a data processing system that must be shielded from electromagnetic radiation. The seal is also useful between nonmoveable panels where a space for leakage radiation might occur because of tolerance in the fit of the panels.

Conductive Seal for Electromagnetic Shielding

The drawing shows a conductive seal for electromagnetic shielding. The seal is useful between moveable panel sections in metal covers for components of a data processing system that must be shielded from electromagnetic radiation. The seal is also useful between nonmoveable panels where a space for leakage radiation might occur because of tolerance in the fit of the panels.

The seal of the drawing has a rubber strip 2 that is laminated to a metal foil 3. After lamination, the foil and rubber strip are lanced at uniform positions 5. The lancing step gives the seal added flexibility and does not reduce the electromagnetic shielding. The rubber strip and metal foil are then attached to a metal strip 6 that supports the foil-covered rubber strip in the configuration shown in the drawing, and forms a base for mounting the seal on an electrical enclosure.
