Roundness Tester

When spring-loaded probes are used for testing pliable wheels and rollers, detents and protuberances tend to be smoothed out. This results in inaccurate roundness measurements.

Accurate measurements are obtained with a near balanced lever 1 pivotable about shaft 2 and carrying follower 3 and variable capacitor plates 4. Lever 1 is slightly weighted toward end 5 to insure that roller 3 will remain in contact with wheel 6 during rotation thereof for roundness testing. Cooperating with plates 4 are plates 7. Plates 4 and 7 form a frictionless transducer.
