Abstract

Rotate direction of the typehead on a printer similar to that described in U. S. Patent 3,981,386 is accomplished by moving a rack 10 into engagement with opposite sides of the rotate pinion 12. Retaining the rack 10 in engagement with the desired side is accomplished by a detent mechanism which is self-contained on the rocker assembly. The engagement mechanism consists of a pair of pivot arms 16 attached to the rotate rack shaft 18. The arms 16 are detented by a pair of toggle leaf springs 20 mounted on the rocker casting 22.

Independently Adjustable Rack Toggle Mechanism

Rotate direction of the typehead on a printer similar to that described in U.
S. Patent 3,981,386 is accomplished by moving a rack 10 into engagement with opposite sides of the rotate pinion 12. Retaining the rack 10 in engagement with the desired side is accomplished by a detent mechanism which is self-contained on the rocker assembly. The engagement mechanism consists of a pair of pivot arms 16 attached to the rotate rack shaft 18. The arms 16 are detented by a pair of toggle leaf springs 20 mounted on the rocker casting 22.

This approach is unique primarily in that the toggle mechanism may be completely mounted on the rocker assembly. In addition, two toggle spring systems are used to provide positive action and a margin of safety. Independent mounting allows rack and typehead homing to be accomplished independent of the remaining selection system.
