Abstract

A currency feed mechanism is provided by an annular cartridge which provides sections far a plurality of currency denominations, an escrow section for currency to be retained within the cartridge (due to a feed error or other cause), and the transport mechanisms for selectively removing currency from the storage sections and inserting them into the escrow section.

Currency Feed Mechanism

A currency feed mechanism is provided by an annular cartridge which provides sections far a plurality of currency denominations, an escrow section for currency to be retained within the cartridge (due to a feed error or other cause), and the transport mechanisms for selectively removing currency from the storage sections and inserting them into the escrow section.

Referring to Fig. 1, annular cartridge 1 issues currency through a port into feed transport path 2 for delivery to one of the terminal stations 3 for delivery to the customer. Printer 4 issues a journal or other document to transport 5 for delivery to annular cartridge 1.

Referring to Fig. 2, cartridge 1 includes three sections 6-8 within cartridge wall 9 and hub wall 10. Sections 6 and 7 store currency 15, 16 (either the same or different denomination, or travelers checks and currency or some other combination of documents for issue) to be issued through port 11. Section 8 stores rejected currency and journal statements 17 received through port 12 in hub 10.

Pushers 13 and 14 urge bills 15 and 16, respectively, against dispense belt 18, which is mounted for rotation in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction about drive rollers 19 and 20. When feed belt 18 is driven in a clockwise direction, bills 15 are dispensed through port 11 into transport 2, and, for counterclockwise rotation of belt 18, bills 16 are dispensed.
