Safety Cap/Leak Detector for Gas Cylinder

A safety cap and leak detector is provided for a gas cylinder 10 having a valve portion 12. A hood 14 is provided which fits over the top of the cylinder. This hood may be rigid or flexible. A collar 16 on the base of the hood is fastened to effect an airtight seal against the cylinder and may have a fastening lock element 18. The collar may be pneumatic.

The hood has a diaphragm top closure 20 which normally is in a collapsed state but which, in the event of a gas leak into the hood, expands, as shown by the dotted line 22, to indicate a leak.

A valve 24 is provided for sampling the hood interior gas, and a pressure valve 26 is provided to bleed off gas if the pressure in the hood becomes too high.
