The conventional practice of mounting simple bracketry has been to provide two directional adjustment capability in a given plane, for example, in height and breadth. Because of the complexity of small mechanism designs and/or the possible effects of space constraints, the need has arisen for a third dimensional adjustment, i.e., depth.

The requirement of depth accuracy for location purposes has been achieved by either extremely close tolerances of the components involved, or by a trial and error hand-forming adjustment. Close tolerances are costly to achieve and they dictate unconventional production processes. Alternatively, hand-forming adjustments, depending upon the function, may induce binding in the associated mechanism.

In the drawing, a rack switch solenoid plunger 10 is illustrated for connection to a bail 15. The rack switch solenoid plunger 10 must be closely aligned in support hole 11 through its yoke 12 and mounting screws 13. As may be seen from the arrows adjacent the figure, this provides directional adjustments A and
B. An internal/external threaded insert 14 is adjustably mounted within the bail 15 to provide a stop location for the yoke 12, thereby achieving a depth adjustment (arrow C). A washer 18 may be added for stability between the insert 14 and the yoke 12.
