Coil Retainer

Coil assemblies can be reliably and efficiently attached to the respective legs of an E-core by using a locking strap that also functions as a circuit board.

Referring to the figure, bobbin 1 with coil 2 has flanges 3 with snap-on tabs 4 formed thereon. The bobbin is shaped with a hollow center 5 to slide over leg 6 of E-core 7 so that the tabs can snap into the ends of groove 8. Thereafter, insulative strap 9, having holes 10 and circuits 11, is placed over the pins 12 of the bobbin and soldered in place. The strap, in addition to holding the bobbins in place, also provides a circuit substrate for coil energization.
