Setter Tile Dielectric Glass Detector

In fabricating gas display panels the location and removal of dielectric glass frit from the setter tiles used in processing the panels has been a time consuming step. The glass frit was previously located by hand rubbing of the setter tile surfaces.

A tool is described herein which more accurately identifies the locations of contamination frit. The setter tile dielectric glass detector tool consists of a small piece of setter tile 10, with a handle 12 mounted thereon, that is passed over the tile 14 to be checked. Because of the relative flatness of the two tile surfaces the tool will float over the tile on a thin film of air. All residual dielectric glass frit fused to the surface of the tile immediately stops the tool and indicates where the tile must be cleaned before use.
