Abstract

A voice coil forming part of a voice coil linear motor of the short coil-long gap type has coil terminations on one side and within the confines of the flux gap. In the figures, a voice coil, shown in part, includes a double layer of windings 1 on a former 2, and is located within a magnetic flux gap of annular cross section defined by pole pieces 3. The upper and lower winding terminations 4 and 5 are brought out to one side of the coil and soldered to pins 7 and 6, respectively. Each of these pins is permanently molded within a plastic connector body 8 mounted on one edge of former 2.

Voice Coil Termination

A voice coil forming part of a voice coil linear motor of the short coil-long gap type has coil terminations on one side and within the confines of the flux gap. In the figures, a voice coil, shown in part, includes a double layer of windings 1 on a former 2, and is located within a magnetic flux gap of annular cross section defined by pole pieces 3. The upper and lower winding terminations 4 and 5 are brought out to one side of the coil and soldered to pins 7 and 6, respectively. Each of these pins is permanently molded within a plastic connector body 8 mounted on one edge of former 2.

Power is provided to the coil by means of an external cable and complementary connector (not shown) mating with pins 6 and 7. The complementary connector and cable also fit within the gap. The use of such edge terminations for the coil allows the gap dimension to be kept to a minimum, thereby maximizing flux through the coil.
