Electrically Anisotropic Resistance Panel

An electrically anisotropic resistance panel consists of a plurality of thin wire conductors extending parallel to one another between the major faces of the panel.

To make the panel, a number of thin metallic foils are etched to provide parallel conductors of fine pitch and width supported by a surrounding border of foil. Each etched foil is coated with a layer of polymer resin and the coated foils stacked one upon the other with all the etched conductors aligned. The stack is compressed and the resin cured to produce a single composite block. The surrounding border of metal and resin is removed from the block, which is then transversely sliced to produce a number of anisotropic panels of desired thickness. The length of each panel is determined by the total width of the etched parallel conductors from the foil, and the width of each panel by the thickness of the stack of foils prior to slicing.
