Abstract

Solar cells, wherein active horizontal junctions parallel to the broad solar exposed surface are employed, may be fabricated of materials, such as silicon or gallium arsenide, supported on a sapphire substrate, as in Fig. A, and in such materials as silicon or gallium arsenide isolated by a material, such as zinc sulfide, on a support of such materials as steel, aluminum, copper, Al(2)O(3) or Si, as shown in Fig. B.
