Starwheel Transport

A starwheel with sharp points, approximately 0.005'' R, is used to direct a transfer medium from the transfer station of an electrophotographic copy machine to the fusing station.

The figure shows a drum 10, a transfer corona generator 11, a starwheel 12, fuser rolls 13 and 14, and a transfer medium 15. An image is produced and developed on drum 10, transferred to the transfer medium 15 under the influence of corona 11, and the transfer medium 15 is guided toward the fuser rolls 13 and 14 by the starwheel 12. Starwheel 12 may be positively driven or driven by the transfer medium. Note that the starwheel tracks on the image-bearing side of the unfused transfer medium.
