Mechanical Switching Element

This element can be used for bistable switching arrangements requiring amplified output signals.

Ring R consisting of flat spring steel is clamped at points A and B at low tension f, causing a slight buckling of the surface of ring R. Ring R is additionally clamped at point C in essentially the same plane as points A and B.

If ring R is slightly displaced at point D in a direction normal to its surface, it is increasingly deflected at diametrical point E, leading to an amplified output signal in the same direction.
