Dual Roller Index Detent

A dual-roller detent arm achieves half indexing of a typewriter platen without doubling the number of teeth of the driven ratchet or gear.

Dual-roller detent 11 contains two rollers 13 and 15 which are spaced such that at any time one of the rollers detents the ratchet 17 and the other roller lays on top of a ratchet tooth. An escapement pawl (not shown) causes the ratchet 17 to advance by one half space increments to each detent position.
