Method for Fastening Pallet Members

The reusable shipper shown in the accompanying drawing incorporates a bottom section which is fastened to a plurality of runners 10, 12, and 14, a tube portion and a top section. When the shipper is fitted together, the tube section fits into the bottom section, while the top section is fitted to cover the tube.

The runners, which support the weight of the reusable shipper, are fabricated from wood, plastic, polyurethane foam or iron.

In order to lock or attach the runners to the bottom section of the reusable shipper, a series of holes are bored in the surface of the bottom section which interfaces the runners. The holes are located along the runners positioned on the bottom section of the reusable shipper. The runners are then foamed in place with a high density polyurethane foam. The foam is then cured to attach the runners securely to the bottom section of the pallet.

For enhanced strength, the bottom section of the pallet is fabricated from a series of layers of corrugated cardboard. Each layer of cardboard is so arranged that the flutes run at right angles to one another. When the polyurethane foam migrates into the flutes of the cardboard, in addition to bonding the runners, the bottom section of the reusable shipper is strengthened.
