Document Positioning Device

Registration of a document and holding it in position may be important, for example, in character recognition.

As shown, a document 10 is first placed against a registration edge 11. Closing cover 12 actuates spring 13 to move nip bar 14 into contact with document 10, holding the registered end of the document in position. At the other end of the cover, a snubbing device 15 mounted on pivot 16 first contacts document 10. As the cover is continued to be closed, the contact pressure of snubber 15 is increased by spring 17, and the snubber both holds the document and tensions the document away from nip bar 14. This assembly assures both proper registration and flatness of the document.
