Lamp Protection Circuit

This article describes a protection circuit for a lamp.

The lamp 10 is current limited by resistance 11 when a switch is turned on, and supplies a signal at input 12 to preheat power switch 13. Voltage sense circuit 14 senses when lamp 10 is preheated sufficiently to reduce the voltage across resistance 11. Voltage sense circuit 15 senses that the machine switching sequence has been correct by determining that the voltage source 16 has been turned on prior to further operation of the lamp. With the proper voltage applied and with the lamp preheated, sensors 14 and 15 gate AND circuit 17 so that application the lamp full-on signal at input 18 operates full-power switch 19 to ass the current limiting resistor 11, and turn the lamp 10 full on.

If either of the above conditions is not sensed, AND 17 remains blocked, preventing full operation of the lamp.
