Abstract

This method of making wear-resistant type elements comprises the following steps: (1) Placing blank type slugs in place on a type element carrier, such as a print wheel; (2) Masking all parts except the face of the type slugs; (3) Coating the working face of the type slugs with a plasma spray of wear-resistant material, for example, tungsten carbide; and (4) Forming characters on the working face of the type slugs by electro-discharge machining.
