Abstract

The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 is useful for removing a belt 10 from a driven pulley 11, which is provided with a belt guard 12. The belt guard 12 pivots around pin 13 after the belt 10 is derailed so that the pulley 11 and associated assembly will clear belt 10, the derailer and belt guard 12.

The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 is useful for removing a belt 10 from a driven pulley 11, which is provided with a belt guard 12. The belt guard 12 pivots around pin 13 after the belt 10 is derailed so that the pulley 11 and associated assembly will clear belt 10, the derailer and belt guard 12.

The belt derailer 14 consists of three nested segments A, B, C (Fig. 3), which are mounted for rotation about an axis 15 which is coaxial with the pulley axis. Segment A is fixedly attached to shaft 16 which is mounted for rotation in guard 12; segments B and C rotate freely on shaft 16. A crank handle 17, attached to the other end of shaft 16, is used to move segment A between the pulley 11 and belt 10.

Each of the segments A, B, C has a sector-shaped surface 18 in a plane normal to the axis of rotation and a cylindrical surface 19 having an axis parallel to shaft 16. Segment A is provided with a detent lip 20, visible in Fig. 3, on its trailing edge which functions to engage a tab 21 on segment B, as crank 17 rotates segment A. Segment B has a similar detent lip 24 which functions to engage tab 25 on segment C, as crank 17 rotates segments A and B. Each of the segments A, B, C is provided with side flanges 19 to maintain belt 10 on the segments, as guard 12 is pivoted away from the plane of the pulley. Segment C is also provided with an inner flange 22 which maintains the belt on segment C.
