Gallium Removal Using a Sodium Hydroxide Solution

Sodium hydroxide may be used to remove gallium or gallium aluminum from gallium aluminum arsenide.

A 25% or 50% solution of NaOH at room temperature will dissolve Ga, but does not dissolve GaAlAs having Al concentrations as high as 85%. At approximately 70 degrees C a 25% solution of NaOH will exhibit some dissolution of Ga(0.15)Al(0.85)As.
