Abstract

Paper sheet 10 is stripped from photosensitive surface 18 of copy drum 11 by stripping finger 12 and jets of air directed at the leading edge of sheet 10 by nozzles 13. Finger 12 is mounted on rod 14 for rotation into stripping relation with surface 18. Air is supplied from source 15 and, via manifold 16, to nozzles 13. The flow of air is regulated by valve 17 which is controlled in response to rotation of drum 11.

Paper sheet 10 is stripped from photosensitive surface 18 of copy drum 11 by stripping finger 12 and jets of air directed at the leading edge of sheet 10 by nozzles 13. Thin, flexible surface 18 is wrapped around drum 11. A quantity of the flexible photosensitive material is stored on rolls 19 and 20 within the interior of drum 11 so that surface 18 on the exterior of such drum can be replaced. A toner image on surface 18 is transferred to sheet 10 with the assistance of transfer corona unit 21. The leading edges of sheets 10 are always positioned along the same line extending across surface 18.

Drum 11 has recesses 22 in its outer surface at the areas where the air jets from nozzles 13 impinge against surface 18. An additional and larger recess 23 is provided in surface 18 of drum 11 where finger 12 engages such surface. The recesses 22 and 23 permit the air jets and finger 12 to deflect surface 18 overlying these recesses inwardly and get behind the leading edge of sheet 10 to strip it from surface 18.
