Abstract

Printing hammer 4, slidably mounted in support rail 8, is disposed to impact type 5, carried by leaf spring 7 secured to reciprocable tubular carrier 6, and drive ribbon 3 against document 2 backed by platen 1 for printing on the document. Hammer 4 is provided with restore spring 10 and is activated by thread or wire 12. The latter is anchored at point 18 and secured at 19 to armature 16 of electromagnet 17. Adjacent sections 20a and 20b of wire 12 form an obtuse angle where they pass around the rounded end 11 of hammer 4. The angle is preferably somewhat less than 180 degrees when electromagnet 17 is energized to straighten wire 12 and cause hammer 4 to impact platen 1. The ratio of armature to hammer movement is on the order of 1 to 5.
