Abstract

The ozone content of the atmosphere near an electrophotographic copying machine having a plurality of corona units is reduced by ozone decomposing filters positioned in the air flow paths of air evacuated from various portions of the machine. The latter comprises drum 10 whose outer surface is a layer of photoconductive insulating material. Disposed about drum 10 are initial charging corona unit 11, imaging station 12, developing unit 13 for toning the latent electrostatic image and transfer station 14. The toner image is transferred to plain copy paper moving along path 15 with the assistance of transfer corona unit 16. The plain paper copy sheet with the toner image on it then moves to vacuum plenum 17 and is transported by endless belts past a heat lamp which fuses the toner image.

The latter comprises drum 10 whose outer surface is a layer of photoconductive insulating material. Disposed about drum 10 are initial charging corona unit 11, imaging station 12, developing unit 13 for toning the latent electrostatic image and transfer station 14.

The toner image is transferred to plain copy paper moving along path 15 with the assistance of transfer corona unit 16. The plain paper copy sheet with the toner image on it then moves to vacuum plenum 17 and is transported by endless belts past a heat lamp which fuses the toner image. Blower 18 is connected to plenum 17 by flexible conduit 19 and provides the required vacuum pressure. Rectangular and generally plate-like ozone filter 20 is located next to blower 18 and is disposed so that the air evacuated from plenum 17 passes through it.

Positioned between station 14 and unit 11 in the direction of rotation of drum 10 is cleaning station 21. This comprises cleaning corona unit 22 and brush 23 rotating at high speed.
