Abstract

On photomultiplier tube 1, conductive guard-ring 2 is formed on envelope 3 extending around one or both electrodes 4 to prevent leakage current from passing between such electrodes. Use of the guard ring allows the utilization of tube 1 at light intensities lower by a factor of 10/3/ than is possible with no ring 2.
