Corona Unit Cleaning Device

Deposits of toner and dust collected on corona wires 10 are removed by cleaning pads 11 when cleaning carriage 12 is reciprocated. Carriage 12 comprises base member 13 having a pair of recesses 14 in it which receive folded cleaning pads 11 of polyurethane or similar cleaning material. Clamping plate 15 is held by screws 16 to base 13 and removably maintains the cleaning pads 11 within their recesses.

Carriage 12 is guided for movement along the length of corona wires 10 by generally U-shaped metal corona shield 17. Elongated rod 18 is attached to carriage 12. Rod 18 extends through end wall 19 of the corona unit and through the center of corona unit removal handle 20. Knob 21 is attached to the outer end of rod 18. Carriage 12 and rod 18 are formed of a nonconductive material such as nylon.

To clean corona wires 10, the operator pulls on knob 21 to move carriage 12 the length of wires 10 to end wall 19. Carriage 12 is then pushed back to its normal position adjacent the other end of the wall of the corona unit where it remains until the next cleaning operation.
