Abstract

This driver circuit provides high peak power for the operation of an electromechanical transducer such one used to operate a print hammer. Connection of power supply 1 to the circuit in A causes current flow through inductor L1 and diode D1 to charge capacitor C1. At this time all SCR's are off since subsequent to the charging of C1 the SCR1 had been made conductive by the trigger circuit and capacitor C1 had rapidly reversed its voltage through inductance L2 AND SCR1 to cut off SCR1. To ensure this sequence of circuit operation inductor L1 is greater than L2. With switch S1 closed, C1 again recharges in the described manner and discharges to provide a voltage such as shown at B. At any time during the portion C of the waveform if any SCR2...SCRn is turned on, current flows through the selected electromechanical transducer EMT and produce an impact of the hammer. Since the electromechanical transducers` inductance L - EMT is greater than L1, more than one SCR2...SCRn can fire at once. The oscillator which supplies trigger signals to SCR2...SCRn is such that its frequency can be synchronized to the operation of a printer provided that this frequency is lower than the frequency defined by f = 1/pi square root of L1-C.
