Abstract

The absence of paper 10 from typewriter platen 11 is sensed by feeler 12 moving into platen groove 13 and is indicated by sounding alarm bell 14 upon depression of line return key 15. An electrical And is provided through series circuit, including alarm 14, paper out switch 16, and switch 17 which is closed by latch 18 of conventional line return clutch 19. Alarm bell 14 or similar sensible indicator or interlock is activated upon the combined functions of paper 10 absence and depression of line return key 15 to prevent a constant alarm indication when the typewriter is idle without paper on platen 11.
