Automatic Sentence Transition

The sequence space, space, shift-to-upper-case is automatically produced in response to the depression of typewriter period key 10, indicating the end of one sentence and preparing for beginning of a new sentence.

Depression of key 10 in a keyboard like that described in U. S. Patent 3,086,635 activates interposer 11 to cause printing of a period in an associated typewriter, not shown, by leftward movement delivered from filter shaft 12. Extension 13 of interposer 11 engages bracket 14 to rotate pivot shaft 15 counterclockwise. Bracket 16 pivots space latch operator 17 against word space interposer latch 18 of a type described in U. S. Patent 3,126,998. Latch operator 17 is retained in its depressed condition by spring-urged latch 28 engaging tab
29. Word space interposer 19 is thus released from latch plate 20 for rightward movement but, as described in Patent 3,126,998, is retained by interrupter latch 21 and cam 22 until the end of the Print cycle rotation of shaft 12 when latch 21 is released.

Shaft 15 also rotates shift select latch bracket 23 to release leaf-spring latch 24 from timing lever 25 which is pivotable counterclockwise by spring 26 in time with motion of interposer 19 by tab 27. As the print cycle for the period terminates, cam 22 releases the stored interposer 19 by pivoting latch 21 clockwise. Interposer 19 causes initiation of a word space operation and also moves tab 27 to allow spring 26 to lever 25 counterclockwi...
