Abstract

Seven digit serial numbers are stamped on machine frames 10 by automatically controlled power embossing device 11 under the control of punched card 12. Card reader 13 receives card 12 and holds it stationary while seven columns of punchings 14, each column representing one digit of the serial number, is read directly by activating one of ten output lines 15. Each column is read sequentially with the punching 14 controlling driving of a stepping motor within stamp head 11. Such action occurs until an identity feedback on line 16 indicates the associated type wheel 17 is properly positioned. After wheels 17 are positioned, solenoid 18 detents such wheels 17 and power solenoid 19 drives the frame 10 up and presses it against them.
