Abstract

The one-way engaging device includes outer hub 10, rotatable with respect to inner shaft 11. Disk 12 of molded elastic friction material, such as urethane rubber, is fixed within hub 10 and has inwardly extending cylindrical projections 13 joined by thin necks 14 with the body of such disk. Shaft 11 holds projections 13 flexed sideways with respect to their unbiased positions so that hub 10 can rotate substantially freely with respect to shaft 11 in one direction. Hub 10 is prevented from rotating in the other direction until a predetermined load is put on such hub. At this time, projections 13 pass over the center with compression of necks 14 to give overload protection.
