Abstract

The quartz capsule opener comprises platform 10 upon which is mounted forward and rear housings 11 and 12 respectively. Such housings are axially spaced one from the other to define slot 13. Housing 12 is pivotally supported at 14 so as to be movable relative to housing 11. Mounted to the rear of platform 10, clear of housing 12, is yoke 15. Upon this is supported grinder 16 and depth guide or stop 17 to position the capsule within housings 11 and 12. Additionally, grinder 16 includes depth guide 18 for preventing the grinding wheel from going through the capsule. In operation, grinder 16 is reciprocated circumferentially of the housing, scoring the enclosed capsule at slot 13. Depth guide 18 prevents premature breakage or accidental over-grinding of the capsule. After the capsule is scored, grinder 16 is swung clear.

Quartz Capsule Opener

Housing 12 is pressed and the capsule is cracked open along the score line. Housing 11 is then opened and the capsule is removed.
