Abstract

Conductive coil 10 is automatically formed in rod 11 that is used as sidebar 12 of magnetic transducer 14. Rod 11 is initially metallized with a conductive material and is machined by laser device 16 and optical system 18. During the machining process, rod 11 is rotated by drive 20 and is driven horizontally by linear drive 22 under control of drive control 24. The latter receives instructions from computer 26. Material is removed along a spiral path on rod 11 to develop coil 10, under closed-loop control of computer 26. The operator views the rotating rod and coil formation through closed circuit television 28.
