Abstract

The mechanism locks keyboard 19 of a keypunch, for example, when keys, other than numeric keys 20 bearing the indicia of 0...9, and space bar 21 are depressed under the condition in which the mechanism is under the control of a program operative to so lock the keyboard 19. The latter has other keys 22 in addition to keys 20 and bar 21. Keyboard 19 is connected with storage 23 by data bus 24. Under ordinary conditions all keys 20 and 22 and bar 21 when depressed, are operative to enter data into storage 23. A program can be entered into storage 23 by load program bus 25. The program is of such a type that keyboard 19 is locked when any other key, except bar 21 and keys 20, is depressed.

Programmable Numeric Shift Mechanism

The mechanism locks keyboard 19 of a keypunch, for example, when keys, other than numeric keys 20 bearing the indicia of
0...9, and space bar 21 are depressed under the condition in which the mechanism is under the control of a program operative to so lock the keyboard 19. For this purpose, storage 23 is connected with program control logic 26 which, in turn, is connected through keyboard control lead 27 with keyboard 19. Indicator lamp 28 is connected by invalid character lead 29 with keyboard 19. Thus, lamp 28 is lighted when keyboard 19 is locked on depression of any key other than one of keys 20 or space bar 21.
