Abstract

In this transport system, drawing A, spool 10 supplies a relatively large width of web material to capstan 12. The latter contains vacuum ports so that good adhesion is obtained between the web and the capstan. large width of web material to capstan 12. This is useful in transporting film where damage to the gelatin surface is to be avoided. Flexible bails 18 and 20 act as mechanical decoupling devices for the web between the capstan and the spools. The bails absorb shock during incremental drive of the web by the capstan. Bails 18 and 20 are are segmented.
