Abstract

A matrix of objects in a multichannel optical projection system is uniformly illuminated. A single linear light source and a series of either flat mirrors or prismatic condenser lenses are used. Flashtube 11 is mounted in transparent tube 13 which transports a cooling medium. Reflective surface 15 increases light efficiency, flashtube 11 appears as a plurality of tubes 17 to shutter 19 by mirrors 21. Each mirror 21 is placed such that the distance d is constant for each path. Condensing lenses 25 are of a cylindrical type having a focal length f3 satisfying the equation 1/fa = (1/d) + (1/d') such that images of flashtube 11 are placed at the plane of lens 27. Alternately, cylindrical condenser lenses 31 are mounted in front of flashtube 11.
