Abstract

Test circuitry can be incorporated in a diode insertion machine for testing diodes prior to and after insertion on a printed circuit card. This eliminates the initial insertion of faulty diodes in printed circuit cards and also enables the detection of diodes damaged by the insertion process. Test circuit 10 electrically connects to contacts 12 by lines 14. Contacts 12 are provided on a component insertion machine at a point where the diodes pass through the machine before insertion into a printed circuit card. Contact is made to a diode 16 and test pulses are applied to it. If diode 16 is nondefective, it passes to inserting tool 18, which bends the diode leads 20 90 degrees and lowers them through apertures 22 in printed circuit card 26.

Inserting Machine Diode Tester

Pivoting cams 28 bend the portion of leads 20 extending through card 26 against lower surface 30 of such card. After bending leads 20 against card 26 is completed, pivoting cams 28 are used as contacts for again-applying test pulses from circuit 10 through lines 32 connecting circuit 10 and cams 28.
